Frequently Asked Questions

What is henna?

Henna comes from a plant. The leaves have a red vein, which is where the color of the stain comes from. The leaves are dried and crushed into a powder. Lemon juice and essential oils are added to make a paste. The stain starts off orange and over 48 hours darkens to a beautiful red/brown. The henna stain can last anywhere from 5 days to 2 weeks, depending on size, location and aftercare.

What is "white henna"?

White henna is a simple mixture of white body paint and a cosmetic adhesive cream. Jewels can be added for extra sparkle and color. "White henna" does NOT stain the skin. Therefore, the design can last anywhere from a few hours to 2 days.

What is Jagua?

Jagua is all natural and comes from a fruit. It is then mixed with water, lemon juice and xanthan gum to make a paste. The jagua stain starts as a greyish-blue and over 48 hours turns to a dark bluish-purple. Jagua stains last anywhere from 7 days to 3 weeks, depending on size, location and aftercare.

What is the process?

Henna, "white henna" and jagua all go on as a paste. The henna is wet for about 30 minutes, while the "white henna" and jagua take closer to 45 minutes to dry. When dry, the henna begins to flake off, while the "white henna" and jagua sink onto the skin a little more and then peels off. In all cases, leave the dried paste on as long as possible. Generally, the longer you leave it on, the darker the stain will get and the longer the body art will last.
